Welcome to the Aviation on Anglesey Archive, please take a few minutes to read the introduction. The Archive was conceived by Hywel Evans & the late Dick Thomas with the aim of recording all known aviation movements/history on the Isle of Anglesey.
The Archive will initially go ‘live’ on 1st April 2024 with the early years up to 1949. Thereafter, every month an additional decade will be released with the 1950’s on 1st May then 1960’s 1st June etc. The Archive has involved numerous visits to the National Archives at Kew Gardens, London plus numerous documents/accounts from contributors acquired over the Years.
The aim is to allow any additional contributions received to be incorporated into the Archive which will be updated at regular intervals. The hope is that anyone who has a connection with any aspect of Aviation on Anglesey will be able to contribute via the author with such as the following:
Pilot Logbook extracts of visits to any of the Anglesey Airfields. [these may be annotated as MPC/VLY/VYL/STCAAME or Missile firing] Photographs, quality is not essential, this is a record. Photos must be either taken on Anglesey or of Valley based aircraft elsewhere. Photos taken in the Loop/A5 are valid if the aircraft visited Valley. Any documentation/observations which may be of interest. Screenshots/scans of the above are more than adequate. There should be no need to send valuable items in the Post.
Even if you’re unsure of any dates etc please send whatever you have as it may be the last or the first part of a jigsaw which solves a puzzle.
Any contributions should be sent to Hywel Evans at: hywel.evans@mail.com If the documents are data large, wetransfer is ideal and free to send large documents.
Finally, the Archive will only be as good as its contributors, so on those rainy days have a look through the attic/old albums and exercise the old grey cells!
Many thanks & enjoy the Archive.
